Technology Alliance of Dallas
Business Plan Competition Rules

Teams

Three teams of two people each will be selected to participate in the competition. Each team is free to determine in what role each team member will serve. As space is limited, teams will be on a first-come, first-selected basis. TAD reserves the right to select the teams that will participate. All participants will be notified via email.

Schedule

5:00PM Wednesday, January 18th: Deadline to submit an interest to participate. Must be submitted to Lore Devra Levin at lore@associated-asia.net

Immediately on receipt of an email stating an interest to compete, an email with an executive summary of the company will be submitted to the participants.

12:00PM noon, Thursday, January 19th: Deadline. Each team must respond with their agreement to submit. Should a confirmation email not be received, an alternative team will be selected.

Competition

Each team will receive via e-mail an Executive Summary of a company outlining the company's product, market, history and financial needs. Each team will prepare a 10 minute presentation as a pitch to a group of angel investors to invest in the company.

Each team is permitted to orchestrate the pitch any way they desire. The team selects what will be discussed and presented, which team members will speak, whether the team will use a PowerPoint or handout, etc. Each team is permitted (in fact encouraged) to extrapolate on the information provided in the executive summary, including different uses for the company product. However, the team may not create facts that are directly contrary to any facts presented in the executive summary. But, if the executive summary is silent on a subject, the team can be creative.

Teams are also allowed to change the name of the company if they so desire.

When the team has completed its presentation, the judges will have five minutes to ask questions and to provide comments and feedback to the team. The other three teams will not be in the room during the team's presentation or judges comments.

Judging

The judges are permitted to ask questions of the team during the team's presentation. Each team should be prepared to answer any questions presented by the judges.

Teams will be judged on the following:

  • Presentation style
  • Information presented
  • Manner of dealing with good and bad facts from executive summary
  • Cohesiveness of team
  • Probability of funding

The judges' scorecards will be tabulated and results will be final.

Award

The winning team will be awarded $500.
